The adjustment stories that we come across are NOT of sacrifices but acceptance!
Essentially all adjustments are an acceptance.
Acceptance can be in any form. Eg -
- Spouse has problems with in-laws; so adjust by ignoring or keeping out of way.
- Children not able to score as well as the neighborhood children - adjust to the uncomfortable fact of life. After all, everyone cannot come first in a race.
- Husband or Wife not interested in sex; adjust by whatever.
Adjustment is not only about what happens in our homes. When some elderly person enters the room and there is no place to sit, what do we do? We adjust by offering our seat or making space so that he/she may sit down. Giving to someone is an activity that brings happiness.
So what is the big noise all about?
Adjustment is a way of life; even a measure of love for own family, spouse, children, parents, in-laws because when anyone goes to a new environment, everything is naturally not the same.
If love and affection is genuine, we willingly give away something - but resist when it is enforced. A mature and a logical person should never impose, nor expect.
Love, like a stream, knows the path it should take; and follows it with least resistance.
