Meditation In Daily Life

31/8/2015

You must do your meditation regularly... And from your heart thank God for what he has given.
Don't count what you don't have.. All these things have no meaning.
Help out someone needy.. In anything.. even a little act of kindness like helping someone cross the road or "being there" listening to someone changes your karmic cycle in a positive manner and ultimately brings contentment, happiness and good health

The Principle of Exchange

I have always felt that far too many people are in the Reiki "Business" as they themselves call it.
What a way to describe it (or practice it)?
Is it a business?
A resounding NO!!!!!

Such a beautiful gift off God cannot be made demeaning.
Yet at the same time, Reiki masters down the ages have talked of "exchange" , that is, something in return; and the purpose of return is just one - NOT TO PUT the person receiving attunement or healing in a karmic debt.

Those who practice reiki will definitely get much more from the abundance that exists and need not even ask for any monitory gain.

Hence I formulated what I like to term as "The Principle of Exchange"

I summarize it as under -

·         It should be as per the capacity of the person giving and not put him or his family in any pressure or trauma
·         It should be as per requirement only, not to get rich!
·         It should be given freely; hence monitory value assigned should only be an indicator. A reiki practitioner should accept much less too with grace and blessings. And last but not the least -
·         Money should NOT be the only way for exchange. Bartering can be a valid method. There are many other ways like giving books, cards, homemade food, handmade knitted items, etc. It can also be a return energy exchange!

Alternatively, one can also give what they can easily or provide a service. One can also do this by way of website development, giving an internet review or by word of mouth referral.

The only catch- both must feel comfortable and be honest about what they exchange.

1. First do the full session on yourself followed by grounding instead of de-linking ie... Focus on energy coming from crown chakra and passing thru all others thru feet into the ground. Follow up with power symbol for protection.

2. Seal the area around you (and in case of other persons distance healing seal the Reiki box in front of you.

3.  Affirm that now you are going to clear the past karma or give Reiki to future events of .... And pray to guiding angels, Reiki energy, guru, god and spiritual guides to help you access the karmic records and send Reiki for removing negativities and healing the karma.

4.  Start by sending Hun sa zha she nen... Establish connection with the FOURTH layer of aura body of yourself or the other person being healed. In case of event send to the event of past or future... It is same thing.

5.. Then fold your palms bring Reiki into palms .. Open them and hold the Reiki ball into your hand. Draw the three symbols and focus on intent. Place the intent on it.

6. Release the ball and ask it to go and heal the karmic record of the past...or future... Visualise it t going there on fourth layer of aura body and cleaning it. In case of event, visualise going to that event and cleaning it.

7.  Hold your palms outwards like healing position and send the the symbols too.

8.  Then withdraw by getting your consciousness back to yourself.

9.  Thereafter draw protection symbol around you followed by AOG and prayer

10. Delink

You must not do that till you have done sufficient practice on distance healing. Do some more distance healing as this requires more power..

Ego and How to Overcome Ego

23/8/2015

What is Ego?

As per the dictionary it is defined as – “a person's sense of self-esteem or self-importance”.

Analyze this - "he needed a boost to his ego" is a commonly heard sentence.

Synonyms of ego:
self-importance, self-esteem, self-worth,  self-conceit, self-image, self-confidence; self-respect, amour propre

In psychoanalysis it is – “the part of the mind that mediates between the conscious and the unconscious and is responsible for reality testing and a sense of personal identity.”

Ego is an interesting part of human nature. It does not exist in any other life forms other than humans.

Even amongst humans, a child is born without any ego and is at peace with the world and accepts himself or herself completely. It is only later as a part of growing up that the ego states starts developing this. A child then sees self as a reflection of what others see or think of her as.

The self worth of a child starts slowly starts developing subconsciously as how others look at him or her as.  Slowly the siblings, parents, schools, Universities and colleagues help in reinforcing the ego that is building up. The world and its events start being seen in the light of how we want to be seen as in every situation. The transference comes outwards from mind to body, and beyond!

Unless controlled it is a part of an subconscious natural conditioning that is imbibed in our genetic make-up from centuries of evolution which taught us to struggle to survive and reinforced the belief that power, strength and capability to controlling others is the key to survival.

Hence we tend to build up that persona - the bigger, the riche, the more powerful the human being has the better chance to survive; hence, we start having assuming a personality that is larger than life or more than what we actually are.

Simply speaking Ego is actually what we are NOT. It is a self defeating effort of projecting grandeur where it doesn't exist.

It has a very damaging effect on our existence.  It is like a cloud of Darkness that surrounds our purity and natural intelligence and makes us live in a world of make believe. Ego is THE one single factor that is to be blamed for most of the breakdown in relationships; be it at home, in the social circles or work.

What are the signs of having a false sense of the ego?

First and foremost what comes in a person is the overall dependence on the external environment. Want they want to hear about themselves or what others think of them has a high degree of importance in life.

An egoist will never however agree to this since it is a totally sub conscious act.

It brings about negative qualities as stubbornness, failure of judgment, failure of acceptance, etc.

This finally affects formation of positive relationships and reactions.

How to overcome ego

The first step to overcoming ago is about understanding the fact that there exists such an issue - a false ego which is clouding all relationships; and thereby the need to change. Acceptance of this fact is the key to bringing about a change.

You have to evaluate your self worth based on your own intelligence and overcome the mindset to depend on others – what they say or what they feel about you. You need to learn to have faith in your intrinsic personality without having to rely on others or on the environment around you to project it to you.

KARMA & How can we break our karmic cycle

20/8/2015

Today my daughter surprised me by asking a simple question.

"How can we break our karmic cycle? ....if at all we can do so."

My Answer was simple - Yes, we can, and it is very easy too. And I explained thus -

One way is by engaging ourselves in more acts of kindness to achieve a balance in our world.

Hence, Acts of Kindness is one of the keys. Things change just by you helping someone once a day. See anyone in distress? Reach out. Do what is within your means. It takes us beyond ourselves... All your problems become smaller. AND this also implies - be kind to yourself too! Do not be over critical or find faults in others as well as yourself.

By reaching out to others, you will realize others have many more problems and you will start being grateful for what we have. Being grateful and focusing on what we have- and showing our gratitude is therefore the second key to it.

You will find many solutions given by greater minds than mine, but I think my solution is the simplest and the most practical one. Diagrammatically, remember this –

We Act (KARMA) => Forms Impression on our karmic DNA (SANSKARAS) => We act again (KARMA)..... and the cycle repeats.

Thus starting your day with a simple prayer to God thanking for what you have and continuing your normal day to day chores and consciously developing an attitude of going through your day with a cocktail of "helpful inclination to all" by reaching out alters the DNA of our soul... and aligns our karma for a more fulfilling life.

The intensity of bond between a father and a son is unique; something best understood by the parents. Children generally realize this priceless relationship only in their hindsight. Most kids see parental bonding as boring and sometimes even embarrassing. But ts been very differerent with my sons - both are gems and have added immense value to this beautiful jouney of life; for which I am ever so grateful to God.

These lines are on the occasion of my son's birthday -

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY SON

From the very first day,
When I held you In my palm.

You wielded on me ,
Your love and irresistible charm.

Ever since the day,
I  clutched  you in my lap.

You snared me and mom,
In your loving trap.

I reacall the day,
When you addressed me as pops.

Happiness knew no bounds,
My loving son, there are no stops.

I  may not show it,
But in my own way I do care.

And wherever you are,
My love will always be there.

Why Do We Remember Negative Events More

17/8/2015

Sometimes we wonder why we tend to remember only bad things that have happened in the past and not something good that has happened.

If you reflect, you will realize that often we do have many present memories. Of course some of them are unpleasant ones too but they are much fewer ones in number. Yet we somehow tend to zero in on the unpleasant memories more than the present ones. Why is it so?

There are two basic reasons for that-

1.            The first one is essentially the fact that we are genetically engineered that way. It is just our survival instinct doing what it is supposed to do. We tend to incorporate all the events that cause us harm or trouble us in any manner to stay in our memory so that we can benefit and keep away from similar events at a later date. Not only that, we also tend to pass down this information from generation to generation by the effect it has on our genetic imprints.

There is an evolutionary basis at work. Those amongst us are more affected by bad things are more likely to survive threats and, would increase the probability of passing the survival instinct along their genes. Remember - “Survival requires immediate attention to the possible negative outcomes but is less so in regard to good ones.”

2.            The second reason of course is that in physical terms our brain is made this way. Our brain is tuned to handle positive and negative memories in different manner.

It is engineered to accept good ad happy or positive events in a fleeting manner whereas the negative ones are analyzed subconsciously for a longer period. Hence they leave n imprint and stay with us simply because it was not accepted smoothly and involved more thinking thus creating a lasting impression that surfaces at the smallest hint of similar insecurity.

Don't you recall that the first time you were hurt in your childhood or were being beaten up by the class bully or being injured slipping down from a bus or being hoodwinked into parting with money. However measly it might have been!

The first break up, the first argument, the first failure remains in our mind despite so many successes before and after.

THIS is the logic behind it all. Once we understand this, getting out of negative thoughts becomes as easy as snapping your fingers. Negative thoughts are just - thoughts. Like positive thoughts (which remain in the background)

So how should we overcome negative thoughts when they occur?  We should simply overlook the effect on our emotions and benefit from it by staying away from similar issues in the future. That is about all the purpose negative thoughts serve. Remember - they are thoughts o events that a well over, and nothing more than that.

Many good events overcome the psychological negative effects of a bad one. Instead of getting burdened down with negative thoughts, try to overcome using this knowledge.

One way is by engaging ourselves in more acts of kindness to achieve a balance in our world.

Develop your Intuition Positively

16/8/2015

Picture
Intuition is knowledge. It is the communication method of the Spirit.

Intuition is also "knowing" something beyond the realms of reason or any prior experience. Simplistically, it is direct knowledge from the very innermost depth of your being. In reality, the Spiritual region of our mind is also its intuitive region. Intuition is actually a higher faculty than intellect or reason.

With intellect, we have to gather information from studies or personal experience and put all that knowledge together, and draw conclusions.

With intuition, you somehow simply know! ..... Intuition is "a feeling that we cannot explain on the basis of simply our knowledge." Intuition is a feeling that distinguishes the communication with our Spirit in contrast to our acquired knowledge and impressions.

Our emotions arise from our relationship with our Source (the Spirit) hence we often refer to emotions as our "Emotional Guidance System".

These emotions are a measure of the degree of our alignment with the Source. Therefore positive emotions and feelings are in harmony with the spirit which in turn guides with positive intuition. Which is why we often say - think positively. That is the core of our spirit.

Although there can never be a complete misalignment with Source, the thoughts that we choose to give our attention give rise to a substantial alignment or misalignment with the spirit.

Therefore, with practice, we must learn to take these subtle signs or hints that the spirit often throws up in our way. These are not just random thoughts, but your dialogue with who you are - the spirit. When we are in harmony our Source, we thrive, and to the extent that we do not accept this alignment, we miss out on an enlightened path.

As aptly brought out by Esther and Jerry Hicks in their book Ask and It Is Given -  "You are empowered Beings; you are utterly free to create, and when you know that, and are focused upon things that are in vibrational harmony with that, you feel absolute joy. But when you think thoughts that are contrary to that truth, you feel the opposite emotions of disempowerment and bondage. And all emotions fall somewhere within the range, from joy to disempowerment."

All human beings have communication with their Inner being. This is in the form of emotions, therefore whenever our emotions are positive; we can feel the harmony with our inner intentions.

Therefore it is important to develop your intuition positively and be guided by it.

MANIFESTATION: REMOVING EMOTIONAL BLOCKS

16/8/2015

Most people often find manifesting success impossible because their inherent emotions are not in synch with their thoughts.

Remember, success will happen only when our thoughts create our emotional energy and our subconscious mind stops interference with the normal flow of positive thoughts.

Every person has the potential to be a creator. Since all of our thoughts, words, emotions and actions are responsible for creating the events in our lives, we can create our reality the way we want. Thus, from birth onto death, we are the creators. Why do most then struggle in manifesting their dreams and desires?

This is so because successful manifestation can only take place when our thoughts and emotions are in synch. The energy of manifestation of creation must transit smoothly from our mind into our emotions subconsciously. If our thoughts match our emotions then they mobilize a strong creative energy deep into our body. In our subconscious, the words and actions are placed with precision and confidence. Finally, the world around us receives a clear communication leading to successful manifestation. It becomes as easy as saying1, 2, 3.

So why do difficulties arise?

This happens when our subconscious mind keeps holding energies of fear, doubt, insecurity, low self-esteem, disbelief or other such self-limiting ideas. When this happens, our subconscious mind creates emotions which block our success. Our thoughts of manifestation that we have consciously created will therefore not collect sufficient emotional energy needed so vitally to successfully manifest our desires. We must therefore strengthen our emotional power to be in harmony with our thoughts in order to manifest successfully.

In my manifestation classes, you will be taught simple methods to bring manifestation process within your emotional energy body and will be guided in a practical training session to effectively control your subconscious mind in order to consciously manifest success.

Love and Blessings.

Basics of Pranayama and Yogic Breathing

15/8/2015

What Is the Meaning of Pranayama?

Prana when literally translated means spirit or the breath and yama means control. Pranayama is thus loosely translated as prana or breathe control.

Breathing is the essence of living, yet most of us don’t even notice it. It is so simple and obvious we often take it for granted. It has immense power to affect body, mind and spirit. And it is precisely because we neglect it that we come across so many ailments resulting from improper or shallow breathing.

Each inhalation that we take goes into bloodstream as rich oxygen that transforms the food into body fuel and enriches the various cells in a body with oxygen. Each exhalation removes from the body toxins in the form of carbon dioxide.  Since supply of oxygen governs the functioning of body cells and organs it also affects our state of mind. It can make us excited or calm, tense or relaxed. It can make our thinking confused or clear. In the yogic terms, air is the primary source of prana or life force, a psycho-physio-spiritual force that permeates the universe.

Pranayama is a set of breathing exercises that ancient yogis developed by various techniques to maximize the benefits of prana. Pranayama is used in yoga to help clear and cleanse the body and mind as prelude to yogic postures. It is also used in preparation for meditation to help maximize its benefits and focus the mind.

Some of the most commonly used forms of pranayama that can be practiced by anyone are:

Ujjayi Pranayama

Ujjayi is often called the “sounding” breath or “ocean sounding” breath. It involves constricting the back of the throat while breathing in and out air to create a sound effect coming from the region of the throat somewhere around the thyroid gland, due to friction of the passing air.

Procedure

1. Acquire a comfortable position with your spine erect. This can be while sitting preferably on the ground in Sukhasana or Vajrasana. For those who cannot sit on ground they can set on a chair at the front edge keeping both the feet flat on ground with back away from the backrest and spine straight. If even this is not possible one can lie down flat on the back. Keep the eyes closed and concentrate on your posture for about a minute and then begin by taking long, slow, and deep breaths through the nostrils.

2. Allow the breathing to be gentle and relaxed as you slightly contract the back of your throat creating a steady hissing sound as you breathe in and out. The sound need not be forced, but it should be loud enough so that if someone came close to you they would hear it.

3. Breath deeply and lengthen the inhalation and the exhalation as much as possible without creating tension anywhere in your body, try to get the sound of the breath to be continuous and smooth.

Benefits

Focuses the mind.
Increases mindfulness.
Generates internal heat.

When to do it

Before meditation
Anytime you want to concentrate and relax your mind.

Dirgha Pranayama

Dirgha means “complete”. Hence this asana is known as the “complete” or “three-part” breath. It involves filling of the three chambers of the lungs, beginning with the lower lungs, and then moving up through the thoracic region or the middle portion of the lungs and into then the clavicular region or the upper portion.

Procedure

Adopt a comfortable position as in Ujjayi Pranayama. Sit with your spine erect, or lie down on your back. Keep the eyes closed, and concentrate on your body position. Thereafter begin taking long, slow, and deep breaths through the nostrils.

Imagine your lungs as made up of three distinct regions. The lowermost part the middle part and the top part.

As you inhale, allow the belly or the lowermost part to fill with air first, drawing air deep into the lower lungs. Continue inhaling air without stopping and fill up the middle portion of the lungs and thereafter the top portion, all in one long breath.

After inhaling fully, stop briefly and start in exhaling. As you exhale, allow the belly to deflate like a balloon in the reverse order, that is – first vacate the topmost portion of the lungs , then the middle portion and thereafter the lower portion or the belly region, Repeat three to five times, keeping the breath smooth and relaxed, and never strain.

After one week of this practice, the number of accounts can be increased to seven or more as per practice and endurance.

Benefits

It Promotes proper diaphragmatic breathing ensuring more intake of oxygen and exhalation of carbon dioxide with toxins. In the process it maximizes oxygenation of blood and also purges the lungs of residual carbon dioxide. This leads to overall relaxation of the mind and body,

When to do it

Prior to meditation
Anytime you feel like it

Nadi Shodhana (also called Alom Vilom)

Nadi means channels and refers to the energy pathways through which prana flows andShodhana means cleansing, so Nadi Shodhana means channel cleaning.

It is also referred to as the “sweet breath” and basically is a simple form of alternate nostril breathing suitable for beginning as well as advanced practitioners of Yoga

Procedure

Sit in a comfortable position as explained in the first two methods above. Hold your right hand up and curl your index and middle fingers toward your palm to make a sort of figure of “V” with the thumb and little finger.

Place your thumb next to your right nostril and your ring finger and pinky by your left. Keeping your eyes closed concentrate on breathing in and out of air. Close the left nostril by pressing it gently with your ring finger and pinky, and inhale through the right nostril. The breath should be slow, steady and full.

Now close the right nostril by pressing gently against it with your thumb, and open your left nostril by relaxing your ring finger and pinky and exhale fully with a slow and steady breath.

Inhale through the left nostril, close it, and then exhale through the right nostril.

That’s one complete round of Nadi Shodhana --

Inhale through the right nostril; Exhale through the left

Inhale through the left ; Exhale through the right.

In short, inhale to the nostril with which you exhale last and after inhaling exhale from the other nostril.

Begin with 5-10 rounds and add more as you feel ready. Remember to keep your breathing slow, easy and full. Concentrate on your forehead and ensure that it does not become strained. If you feel out of breath, stop immediately, lie down for a few minutes. Take normal breaths and if you feel up to it, you can restart.

Benefits

The biggest benefit is that it promotes clear thinking, calms the mind, soothes anxiety and stress, balances left and right hemispheres of brain.

When to do it

Before meditation and whenever you are stressed and wish to relax. You can also do it as part of your centering before beginning an asana or posture routine.

The Spirit of Gratitude

14/8/2015

The Attitude of Gratitude is simple yet difficult to practice. Most of us practice mechanically more as a matter of ritual. In actual truth, the (AOG) Attitude of Gratitude is more about “feeling” it than about wording it.

Hence it is more important that we began to “develop” the attitude of gratitude. The feeling should come from deep inside as if emanating from the heart.

We tend to get so used to abundance of the universal force that we generally take it for granted. We overlook the simple and small things that came our way and focus on things that did not! The truth is, once you are grateful for what you have, more abundance fills your life.

Ours is a life of shifting focuses. Whereas, all we need to do is to keep our focus on gratitude of the giver, for having given us what we have (and so many others may not) The moment we learn to develop this  Attitude of Gratitude the whole universe opens its doors for you to bask in its glory.

Letting Go the past

12/8/2015

Most of us cannot let go of the past.
There are many self styled Gurus and advisers on how to go about it (though I wonder if they themselves can!) and are full of ideas and methods to "guide" ....but most often it is a sort of misguidance.

WHY is it so?
Because every action we take as per their "guidance" reinforces the fact that there exists a problem (in this case - not being able to let go of past).

HOW to overcome this? (click)
You cannot ! .... till such time understand why we canoot.
Humans are programmed to remember. As are all living beings, but we are also blessed with a higher mind, a better brain and hence larger capacity to store - to last us our life time.
We have to understand that we ARE SUPPOSED to have memory and its effect . It is a good thing too and meant to take us through are lives unharmed, creating perspectives and frames of references. So we cannot wish memories away.
Also, remember that the happy events remain in background while unhappy or not so happy ones surface more often. That CANNOT be avoided. That is the way we are programmed. Else we would not last i this world. THIS is what saves us from dangerous situations like falling, burning our hands, downing, etc, etc.
The trick is to -
1. Understand the Triggers- what brings the past memories, good or bad, to surface. Thereby avoid it. Eg, if going to a museum or a particular lakeside reminds you of someone who was close but you want to forget; then its better to avoid going to that place.
2. Remain Rooted to the Present - Past is just a frame of reference. People come and go in life. One should not get stuck on past events. Remember, If you loved someone in the past does not mean you must cling on even after that someone has gone or has decided to move on.
So should you.
