It is dedicated to our Guru- or spiritual teachers whom we consider to be the enlightened humans, and who, true to the traditions of Karma Yoga share their Knowledge, insights, and wisdom without any monetary expectation.
The Significance of Guru Purnima
As per the Hindu Taittiriya Upanishad in the social order, respect and obeisance must be accorded to first to mother, then father and thereafter to the Guru, in that order. Guru is next only to the creators - God, and parents.
In the modern world, although knowledge can be available in the form of books, CDs, etc it falls short of wisdom which can come only is considered valid only if it came down from the guru. This is because knowledge is not only just words or procedures but also the infinite system that gets transmitted along with these words. The presence of the Guru is all that makes a difference.
The presence of Guru his knowledge experience and vision Guide a student and take him along a path without committing any mistakes.True knowledge is passed down from Guru to Shishya (disciple) from generation to generation without any distortion; as the Guru is not expected to hold anything back.
Having a Guru in life to guide you is one of the most sacred things; it not only brings us a wealth of knowledge but also creates conditions for internal self-development as knowledge is never complete. There is always scope for more and that can only be satisfied when the light for this knowledge is lit by the right Guru.
Make this Guru Purnima Special
This year on the day of Guru Purnima (it falls on 27th July 2018), do plan to meet with your Guru or Sadguru.
If you cannot meet physically, call on the phone, write to him/her or simply spare a thought and get the spiritual rays and blessings.
The special blessings on the day of Guru Purnima will enhance your spiritual journey by bringing forth experiences and sacred knowledge acquired by your Guru, and passed on from generation to generation. This is a very important day for guru discipline as it will also purify your lineage and the future generations.
